In 2012, Friends of the Children Foundation donated $8,250.00 to Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton for the purchase of a bilirubinometer of which they were in desperate need for.
Bilirubinometer’s are devices for measuring the bilirubin (Jaundice) level on babies non-invasively (without a blood test). Jaundice is a common condition in newborn babies, occuring in approximately 60% of all newborns. These machines will help doctors detect babies at high risk of jaundice requiring phototherapy much sooner and prevent risk of consequences. With the help of this unit “Monash Children” will be able to admit more infants with Jaundice and the new technology has proven to reduce length of stay.
For the first quarter of 2013, we have been able donate $12,000 to purchase of a special vest which will help treat young patients with Cystic Fibrosis. Treatment with the vest can result in fewer admissions to hospital and less time spent in hospital when admitted, meaning more time at home with family and friends.
